Message From The President

Dear members and Fellows,

It is with deep humility and pride that I release this message as the 44th President of the Ceylon College of Physicians. The CCP is the supreme body that represents for the academic development of Physicians of Sri Lanka. On behalf of the newly appointed Council of our College, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to the past president and her Council for the excellent work done and contributions made throughout 2010.

The Ceylon College of Physicians was founded following an informal discussion by 11 physicians at the consultant’s lounge of the General Hospital Colombo, on 25th of July 1967. Since then it has grown from strength to strength and functions as a responsible Academic body providing multi-faceted educational programmes of the highest quality for physicians and trainee physicians to assist in their educational needs. It also plays an advocacy role as the main stakeholder that advises the Ministry of Health in formulating health policy, prioritizing health delivery based on changing needs of society and in implementing health systems in an organized, integrated and meaningful manner throughout our island nation. Keeping with its longstanding traditions I along with my capable and committed Council, look forward to follow the footsteps of our predecessors in sustaining the responsibilities of this office.

Keeping with its long standing traditions, we have planned to organize an attractive programme for this year on the theme of “Beyond All Limits”. Nothing would contain us in discharging our responsibilities to uphold standard of care for our Island nation.

In addition to the annual academic sessions scheduled to be held from 15th – 17th September, there will be inaugural foundation sessions on 29nd of July in Kandy, organized especially for outstation physicians. We cordially invite all our members and fellows to attend these sessions. This would be an ideal opportunity for fellowship of our colleagues who otherwise are extremely busy with their clinical work.

There will be regular college lectures, young physicians forum, specialty days, MCQ course, MD Part II course and workshops to improve research skills organized by the college during 2011. In addition, we will be conducting programs on cost effective interventions on prevention, control of Non communicable diseases for primary health care doctors from Northern and Eastern provinces. Further there will be more activities in collaboration with other colleges.Best wishes for 2010

Your active participation at all college activities arranged specially for the development of professional skills of the members is vital for the success of this year’s programme.

 Thanking you

 Yours sincerely,

Dr. Padma Gunaratne MD (SL), FRCP (Glasg), FCCP
